Webb10 apr. 2024 · At our institute, we see about ten outpatients per year with screwworm infestation; over the last ten years, ten patients have required hospitalization. The patient in this case received a dose of 200 ug/kg of ivermectin over two consecutive days, followed by surgical extraction of at least 30 larvae, and continues to be monitored. Webbwas declared free of screwworm in 1966, however infection was still an issue due to recurrent cases from Mexico. The US formed an agreement with Mexico in 1972 to eradicate screwworm from that country, a necessary step to completely prevent screwworm infestation in the US. Mexico was declared free of screwworm in 1991.
